2023 Event Recordings
In 2023, we launched a new speaker series inspired by the Pirkei Avot quote to “make your home a meeting place for sages.” Our vision for the series, Reimagining How We Age, was to invite you into our home—bringing us all together in meaningful, mission-aligned conversations with experts in the field of aging. Our special guests included Dr. BJ Miller, Dr. Rebecca Sudore, and Dr. Louise Aronson.
Louise Aronson, M.D. is a leading geriatrician, educator, professor of medicine at UCSF and the author of the New York Times bestseller and Pulitzer Prize finalist Elderhood: Redefining Aging, Transforming Medicine, and Reimagining Life. Her current work focuses on expanding geriatric care and public perceptions of old age to more accurately attend to the decades and diversity of elderhood, and to empower older adults to retain agency and maximize wellness as they age.
Dr. Rebecca Sudore is a geriatrician, palliative medicine physician, and clinician investigator who has dedicated her research to making medical information easier for patients and their families to understand. To this end, she has created innovative, patient-centered tools including an easy-to-read advance directive in multiple languages for all US states and an interactive, ACP website www.PREPAREforYourCare.org in English and Spanish. Dr. Sudore directs the Innovation and Implementation Center in Aging & Palliative Care (I-CAP) and the Vulnerable Populations Aging Research Core of the NIA-funded Pepper Center.
Longtime hospice and palliative medicine physician, Dr. BJ Miller, speaks widely on topics of death, dying and palliative care. His 2015 TED Talk: “What Matters Most at the End of Life”, has been viewed over 17 million times. Dr. Miller currently provides personalized, holistic consultations for patients or caregivers who need help navigating the practical, emotional and existential issues that come with serious illness and disability through the company he co-founded, Mettle Health. He was featured in conversation with SFCJL CEO, Dr. Adrienne Green.
